Sustainable Packaging:
A Focus on the Environment

Be sustainable across every packaging platform.

Experts calculate that the demand for plastic packaging will double in the next 20 years. This requires a redoubling of sustainability efforts in order to be able to meet the growing demand responsibly, while reducing the environmental impact.
.
Because your products are so unique, we recognize that one size does not fit all.  Many multi-nationals are researching how they can stay profitable while offering their customers the very best in sustainable packaging.  Whether you are flow packing, thermoforming, traysealing, or automating we have worked tirelessly to understand your pain points and how we address them.

Reduce Packaging

Recycle and Compost

As the proud recipient of last year’s Technology Excellence Award for Packaging and Processing, we’re continuing to raise the bar by redefining the standards of packaging through innovative technology and ideas. This award not only reflects the quality of the solutions we offer, but also of the dedication and diligence of our team.

Last year we featured our AR-enabled training and maintenance programs that reduce downtime and eliminate errors. Though we’ve made this solution even better over the past year, we still have some new tricks up our sleeve. Stop by booth #N-4736 to see what solution we’ve entered for the excellence awards this year!

Sustainable Options from ULMA

ULMAweCare

#ULMAweCare

#ULMAweCare encompasses several areas of research and development, including reducing packaging, using thinner films, incorporating recyclable materials like cardboard and cellulose, and using biodegradable plastics and mono-materials that facilitate recycling.
.
“#ULMAweCare is an “ambitious and cross-cutting sustainability project with a double objective of reducing packaging and promoting the incorporation of recyclable and compostable materials while keeping packaging features to extend shelf life of products. Efficient processes and effective packaging with a lower environmental impact: that is #ULMAweCare.”  – Josu Garcia Urien, Sustainability Manager at ULMA Packaging

Thermoforming

TFS 407 R with Cryovac® Darfresh® – Reduced Scrap System

Scrap reduction up to 40% is possible for some products that allow to make vacuum through specially designed air holes on the bottom film.

TFS 407R Reduced Scrap

Introducing WidthFlex™, the Latest Advancement in Sustainable Thermoforming

The Width-FlexTM  system provides the perfect solution for customers who require different-width formats.

In some cases, scrap can be reduced by up to 80% because the feed system is adjusted to the width of the reel required for each format.

The benefits are clear:

Flow Wrapping

Flow Vac

The FV 55 SD is a sanitary design machine that uses roll stock film vs. bags, and automatically determines the length of bag formed, helping eliminate wasted material.
Tight Bag Packaging

Tight-Bag™ Vertical Packaging

We also have the Tight-bag™ system on our vertical baggers. It can use 100% recyclable mono-material film, and uses the precise amount of material needed for the product.

Sustainable Options from G. Mondini

Sustainable Tray Seal Packaging

Tray Sealing

With PLATFORM® Technology on a Trave® Tray Sealer we created a flexible tool that can continually respond to rapid changes in food packaging technologies, market demands and new sustainable materials. We can utilize renewable resources such as recyclable paperboard to replace plastic and thinner materials.
.
Environmentally-conscious packaging with these technologies:

Platformer Tray Forming

The Platformer reduces the carbon footprint of trays by manufacturing on demand at the point of packaging. It produces trays from roll-stock film reels at the customer’s factory, consuming the precise amount of plastic required. The product is placed and tray sealed immediately, improving system effi ciency and security. Material savings of up to 38% can be achieved with scrap below 2%. This reduces the carbon footprint of the tray manufacturing and logistics process. Form trays in a complete packaging line with a Trave tray sealer, or as a stand-alone option.

Platformer Plus

PaperSeal®

PaperSeal® Replaces MAP and VSP Plastic Trays with Barrier-lined Cardboard

The process operates by fabricating a MAP tray from a pre-cut flat cardboard, which is formed and a barrier liner automatically applied in one step process. The system is based on the same benefit stream as Thermosealer® technology where the fabricating of trays is conducted directly before the tray sealing process.

Kirigami

Sustainable, paper-based trays customizable in a variety of shapes and sizes.

Can be used on all Mondini tray sealing machines.

Tote/Basket Management

Tote/Basket Management

Reusable Plastic Containers (RPCs), also known as “totes” – or in the bakery industry,  “baskets” – are made to accommodate the transfer of a wide range of products and primary packaging types. Reusable plastic totes not only reduce carbon emissions, waste, and natural resource consumption, they offer improved product protection versus cardboard alternatives.
